Description

Methadone maintenance and buprenorphine/naloxone therapy are opioid replacement therapies prescribed to patients with opioid use disorder for the purpose of harm reduction. We examined the electronic health records of 14,284 inpatients and outpatients receiving one of these therapies to determine the odds ratio of adverse events including overdose or continuing substance abuse. The relative risk of an adverse event while on methadone therapy when compared to buprenorphine was determined.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Attendees will understand how analysis of electronic health record data generates new knowledge that may be used to improve quality of care and patient safety in the setting of opioid use disorder treatment.
