Description

At Texas Children’s Hospital we worked to decrease morbidity and mortality due to one of the leading causes of death in children- sepsis. One strategy used was to create a sepsis score tool which lead to a Best Practice Alert helping to increase awareness and communication. Since implementation in acute care, the provider accepted the BPA 29% of the time and put the patient on the sepsis pathway and with that we have seen a decrease in mortality from sepsis within our institution.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Attendees will understand the process of design and implementation of a sepsis screening tool for the acute care floor. They will appreciate how use of decision support for increase awareness can help improve morbidity and mortality in sepsis.
