Description
We conducted a pilot study to demonstrate the possibility of using social media for cancer care needs assessment. Based on the data abstracted from Reddit Cancer Forum, we identified the care needs of patients with bladder cancer and their family members: they sought psychological/emotional support, peer support, and cancer and treatment-related information. Social media such as Reddit Cancer Forum can be used as a new modality for cancer care need assessment.
Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: The attendee will be able to 1) understand the care needs of patients with bladder cancer and their family members and 2) discuss the possibility of using social media for needs assessment.
