Board 49 - Decreasing Inappropriate STAT Image Ordering

4:30 PM–5:30 PM May 1, 2019 (US - Eastern)

Altitude

Description

Currently physicians are able to order CT Chest/Abd/Pelvis images as STAT or Routine. Radiologists commonly see numerous imaging studies inappropriately ordered as STAT image studies. We discovered that STAT images are the new Routine with over 51% of all CT body imaging being ordered as STAT. We currently plan to develop targeted intervention to help promote appropriate STAT CT body image ordering. The process can then be replicated for X-ray, MRI, and other imaging modalities.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: High reliability organizations: Process for ensuring patients get the right imaging at the right time
Quality measurements and improvement: Process for decreasing inappropriate utilization of resources at their institution
Workflow efficiency: Process for improving the workflow of each hospitals radiology department
