Description

Prediabetes is a medical condition that results in elevated blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c (HgbA1c) levels above normal but that do not meet criteria for the diagnosis of Type II Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Using big data analytics, VA Central Iowa Health Care System identified all primary care patients who have a presence of Prediabetes, to increase treatment and management of this population, with the goal of preventing progression to T2DM.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: The objective of this presentation is to educate the audience on the importance of identifying, diagnosing and treating Prediabetes to prevent or prolong progression to Type II Diabetes Mellitus. The attendee will understand the techniques and strategies for leveraging existing EHR data to assist with identifying, treating and managing this population.
