Description

Geisinger is a rapidly expanding healthcare system in the central region of Pennsylvania. As it expanded, Geisinger absorbed many hospital systems, clinics, laboratories, surgical centers, and other healthcare facilities. With each facility, came a different Electronic Health Record (EHR), and each Electronic health record with its own unique implementation and complications. Accessing the records on these systems has proven difficult as there is no regulation that clearly defines the ownership of patient data, and if Geisinger as a health system would like to maintain access to patient data on a legacy system, it has to maintain a myriad of vendor subscriptions. Over time, this has become a costly endeavor. A task force was assembled to create a dashboard to decommission these legacy systems and create an avenue to access the medical information. This taskforce will also create a process for the decommissioning of future legacy systems.
