Description

In order to reduce unnecessary RVPs during influenza season, we designed non-interruptive CDS in the form of reflex testing (2016 flu season) and order display changes (2017 flu season) to encourage targeted influenza/RSV PCR. We collected the total ordered RVPs and influenza/RSV PCRs per month from November to March of 2013 to 2018. A one-way ANOVA on % RVP of total for pre-CDS, reflex testing, and display changes groups resulted in a p-value of 0.00001.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Non-interruptive CDS strategies including CPOE display and search behaviors that can decrease unnecessary testing. Many CPOEs contain these features, regardless of EMR, and could be implemented at other institutions.
