Description

EHRs are complex and making changes to them can be risky. To reduce risk, organizations have adopted change control processes and limited changes to a few specific dates. In stark contrast, modern software development organizations like Google and Netflix deploy changes 30-100 times per day, safely, using an emerging set of key tools, architectures and processes, collectively referred to as DevOps. I will give an overview of DevOps, and its application to EHRs.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: The attendee will develop a new knowledge of DevOps, a set of modern software engineering tools, processes and architectures that allow for faster, safer releases of changes to production systems. The attendee will also learn about how DevOps can be applied to electronic health records, how risk can be minimized and how DevOps can integrate with clinical governance.
