Description

Over 45% of the 85.7 million US adults with hypertension have uncontrolled blood pressure causing increased cardiovascular risks. Guidelines on hypertension management include lifestyle modification (e.g., diet, exercise) and medication initiation as first line treatment. This analysis used natural language processing and statistical methods to evaluate documentation of lifestyle modification and medication initiation for hypertension within the electronic health record. Insights from this work can inform hypertension treatment, care process improvement, and metric development.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Attendees will be able to understand that textual data from electronic health records can be retrieved and used to inform treatment, care process improvement, and metric development.
