Description

An electronic treatment pathway for the management of adhesive Small Bowel Obstruction (SBO) was built from a paper-based pathway and implemented at a single institution. Implementation of both the paper and electronic SBO Pathway is associated with decreased hospital length of stay. It is feasible to implement and utilize an electronic clinical pathway for evidence-based, widely utilized pathways.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Attendees should be able to discuss the value of the small bowel obstruction (SBO) pathway and the feasibility of an electronic SBO pathway. An electronic SBO pathway application can be implemented to track patient compliance and outcomes. Pathways can lead to decreased hospital length of stay for patients with adhesive small bowel obstructions.
