Description

Data from an ambulatory clinic’s visual management tool may more directly reflect the timing of patient interactions than that inferred from EHR user logs. Further, this data may be readily accessed and analyzed for rapid-cycle improvement. Medical education is a key mission of an academic health center but does impact clinic productivity. Time-stamped state-change data demonstrates that trainees increase appointment durations in a pediatric gastroenterology clinic at an academic center.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: The participant will learn to 1) apply data from a visual management board to conduct clinical workflow analysis, and 2) determine the impact of medical students and resident physicians on length of patient visits in a pediatric specialty clinic.
