Description

High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) use in bronchiolitis has become commonplace, but inadequate weaning protocols may unnecessarily prolong length of stay and lead to medical overuse. We undertook a workflow analysis to inform a quality improvement initiative on reducing duration of HFNC use for hospitalized patients with bronchiolitis. Preliminary data shows the workflow redesign led to a trend in decreased duration of HFNC.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: - The participant will understand how swim lane diagrams can highlight process steps that are ripe for change.
