Targeted Provider Laboratory Result Alerts

8:00 AM–8:20 AM May 2, 2019 (US - Eastern)

Great Room 1

Description

Failure to follow-up laboratory test results contribute substantially to unsafe patient care. Vanderbilt University Medical Center has developed a platform allowing clinicians to develop custom criteria around receiving mobile alerts for laboratory and radiological tests. In this study, internal medicine residents have identified eight high yield cases where custom alerts could be beneficial. We intend to show in a four-month pilot that these mobile lab alerts when appropriately targeted can improve the quality of care delivered.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Attendees will understand the importance of targeting laboratory result alerts to clinicians to reduce alert burden, to improve quality of care, and to achieve financial savings.
