Description

Usability testing is a critical component in development of successful telehealth solutions. As part of a study on the effectiveness of telehealth-delivered pulmonary rehabilitation (PR), we developed a digitally connected bicycle for use in low-income urban patients. Through human-centered design and usability testing, multiple user experience enhancements were addressed in domains of environment, safety, patient factors, and technology. The fundamentals of this approach can be applied to any form of patient-facing health information technology solution.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Maximizing patient acceptance of Health Information Technology (HIT) solutions demands significantly more than simple clinical validation. In the context of a study on pulmonary rehabilitation, we will share best practices around human-centered design and usability testing, which were used to facilitate the development and implementation of a telehealth HIT solution optimized for COPD patients in real-world settings.
