Description

The Choosing Wisely® Challenge at the University of Chicago Medicine (UCM) provides an opportunity to engage trainees and staff on an interdisciplinary team to improve value. They are supported by IT, EHR teams, clinicians, and analysts to help overcome challenges. Trainees and staff implemented system changes that led to sustainable improvements by combining EHR changes with educational plans and giving priority for data requests and EHR optimization.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Attendees will learn how to engage trainees and frontline staff, gain support from quality and informatics leaders, and use the EHR in a way that is conducive to the clinical workflow while avoiding alert fatigue. Examples showcasing trainee-led projects and their EHR solutions will allow participants to see the results of interdisciplinary work. Finally, participants will be able to understand how to use the COST (Culture, Oversight, System, Training) framework for value improvement where the systems piece includes EHR optimization.
