Description

Clinical informatics (CI) varies broadly, and as such it may be difficult to succinctly explain what informaticians do and where. A group of CI fellows derived a model to explain CI based on setting (internal, external, policy) and domains of focus (knowledge, operations, innovation). This “KOI Pond” - named after koi fish who vary widely in their patterns, colors, and scales - may prove useful for those considering jobs in settings less familiar with CI practice patterns.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Attendees should be able to succinctly describe their roles as clinical informaticians, to understand and navigate potential career paths, and to establish firm roles and responsibilities with potential employers
