Description

Screening and management for elevated lead is not performed for many at risk children in Philadelphia. Clinical decision support can help to improve screening rates, but selecting the right intervention time and target is a key to success. Using a quality improvement framework we sought to identify high-impact, low-effort interventions and progressively improve screening then management. Using an iterative approach in a single clinical site we hoped to demonstrate improvements that can be scaled.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Attendees should recognize barriers to streamlining management of elevated lead in children and to developing CDS for this public health concern. Attendees will be able to describe how a CDS-driven quality improvement project can be used to make iterative progress in clinical care and how to assess for unintended consequences.
