Visualizations have the potential to turn the vast amount of patient data into actionable information. Some commercial EHRs have attempted to integrate such visualizations into their systems, however their capabilities are limited and often only focus on single encounters. At Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, we developed a web-based library that allows organizations to quickly instantiate an extensible and interactive timeline data visualization agnostic of EHR vendor.
Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: After attending this presentation, participants should:
1. Describe the importance of developing effective health data visualizations in commercial EHRs.
2. List common data visualization principles and the technologies that best support them.
3. Summarize the challenges associated with integrating externally developed visualizations in an otherwise closed EHR.
