Description

In the EHR era, defining conditions preferentially should employ SNOMED CT concept hierarchy-based (intensional) code sets, rather than extensional lists. By doing so, clinical guideline and eCQM authors can streamline EHR implementation of condition-specific decision support promoting guideline adherence. Additionally, investigators using EHR data can more readily study specialized and/or rare conditions.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: The session participant will be able to:
- Justify the use of a SNOMED CT hierarchy-based definition of a condition for purposes of targeting clinical decision support.
- Evaluate the relative clinical specificities of SNOMED CT vs. ICD for detecting and defining specialized and/or rare conditions from EHR data.
